Kaitieke School Assessment Plan and Overview - 2024
The main purpose for assessment at Kaitieke School is to improve student learning, the quality of the classroom programmes and effectiveness of learning and teaching. Assessment is the ongoing process of gathering evidence for and of learning. This evidence will be used to give recognition and timely feedback to the learners and all other stakeholders, and to design teaching and learning programmes. Assessment will reflect best practice that supports the learner and the teacher in the promotion of student progression and achievement.
Kaitieke School has an Assessment Schedule based over four terms. From this data, teachers are able to have their Overall Teacher Judgements of each learner supported, in order to:
Analyse and interpret student progress and achievement information
Identify the learning needs of each student
Make informed decisions about planning deliberate acts of teaching, learning experiences and developing IEP’s / Growth Plans
Advise and guide students to make effective choices about their learning based on feedback and feedforward, stemming from assessment information
Report to students, whānau and the BoT on this data in Term 2 and Term 4, as well as throughout the year where necessary
Growth Plans have been developed for every student at Kaitieke School. These are modelled off a traditional IEP, but cater for all stages of learning and focus on progression throughout the four terms, including student’s own goals and voice. These will be used as a checkpoint for the student and teacher each term, as well as shown to whānau at whānau / kaiako kōrero in Term 1 and 3.
All assessment data will be confidential, protect our students’ mana, and be used to inform teaching and learning - making sure that we are challenging, encouraging, and supporting each learner so that they may progress at their best potential, whilst enjoying learning and being at school.
Formalised testing will happen in Term 2 and Term 4 for reporting purposes (to whānau and the Board) and will happen throughout the year as needed to inform teaching practices and form Overall Teacher Judgements (OTJ’s)
